What we believe

We use a variety of words to describe ourselves.  The first and most important is that we are a Christian Church.  As such, we believe that all God’s good purposes and plans for us – forgiveness, rescue from judgement, and newness of  life in a restored relationship with God – are given in Jesus Christ.

The Bible puts it like this:

“There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to people by which we must be saved.”

In this, we affirm the ancient, ecumenical creeds of the Christian church: the Apostles’ Creed, the Nicene Creed, the Athanasian Creed, and the Chalcedonian Definition of Faith.

In addition, we are a particular type of Christian church: a Reformed Baptist Church.  We think that the most significant definition of Reformed Baptist beliefs was captured in a confession of faith called the Second London Baptist Confession.  This provides a very helpful framework for our beliefs and teaching.

We are a part of the Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches – a network of around 650+ congregations around the UK.  We subscribe to their statement of faith and their ethos statements.  We are also a part of the Cambridge Gospel Partnership and enjoy working and praying with local congregations in Cambridge.
